In a celebration of pop art and style, a collection of paintings and photos from the pop art icon that is Andy Warhol will be displayed at an exhibition in the Joy Pratt Markham Gallery, which can be found at the Walton Arts Center, starting on January 20th and running until the end of the month.

The exhibition of Warhol’s work will feature eleven paintings and 16 photographs taken by Warhol. The exhibit is free and is open Monday-Saturday.

The paintings that will be on display are some of Warhol’s most famous works, including his pop art classics of Muhammad Ali, Pele and golfer Jack Nicklaus. Ten of these paintings are of athletes of the twentieth century.

The final painting is a portrait of Richard Weisman, an art collector and aficionado, who is also sponsoring the art exhibition.

Shannon Mitchell is the director of the Fine Arts Center Gallery:

Richard Weisman’s generous loan of his paintings, combined with our recently acquired photographs, should provide visitors to the Joy Pratt Markham Gallery with a taste of what made Andy Warhol such an icon of art in the 20th century.

Enjoy art without knowing too much about it

Everyone would love to know a lot about art, literature or even wine. To be able to talk about it with a degree of knowledge and to enjoy it for what it is. However, most of us don’t know a great deal about such subjects, so don’t feel they can talk about it among friends.

You don’t need to be an expert in something to enjoy it. You don’t have to know what vineyard in France a particular wine comes from in order to know that you like it, you don’t need to know what other works a playwright has penned in order to know that you’ve enjoyed his work, and you don’t need to know what artist created a work to know that you feel good looking at it.

Indeed, the best way to build up your art collection is to use your own photos to turn into canvas prints, and become your own artist. By using your own photographs and having them printed on canvas you can display your own original artwork on the walls in your home, and then talk knowledgably about it when your friends come round to visit.

This way, when your friend with a keen interest in wine starts warbling on about some grapes from the South of France having ‘length’ and ‘body’, rather than nod along, you can talk about your new artwork with a sense of accomplishment and pride.

How many of us have photographs dotted around the home in different places, the cupboards, drawers, wardrobes or even in plastic bags on the floor? During our lives we take thousands of photos, which is a lot to keep track of, so it’s no wonder that you can never be sure where all of your photographs are or what they’re of. It’s also no surprise that when you do find a photo album or a bag of photos that you tend to spend a few minutes (or sometimes longer) flicking through them being reminded of all of those great times you spent.

It’s worthwhile then taking better care of your photos and organising them so that you know where they are and what they’re of. It’s also worthwhile putting some of the better ones on display so that you get a constant reminder of the good times and can enjoy them all year round.

You can get your photos enlarged and framed, made into collages or if you’d prefer something unique you could have them turned into canvas prints by printing your photos to canvas.

By turning your photos into canvas art you’re making the best out of them and ensuring that they’ll last a lifetime, because canvas prints are known to last much longer than photos printed on paper.

When you think of important photos what do you think of? Your child’s first smile, your favourite holiday snaps, a picture of dog sleeping by the fire? Most people will say that their wedding photos are the most important pictures they’ll ever own as they signify the most important day in their lives, a day that signifies the union between them and their loved one. However, when it comes to keeping wedding photos most people just have them stored in a dusty photo album, or sometimes the odd picture framed and display on the wall with countless other photos.

As photos from your wedding are the most important pictures in your life, and often the most expensive, you should display them in a manner that befits them. The most elegant way of displaying pictures is to have them printed on canvas and turn them into works of art that commemorate your special day.

When a wedding means as much to a couple as it should, treasuring the wedding photos by having them turned into canvas prints is the best way of making sure that your special memories stay around as long as possible.

Copy your children’s art onto canvas

If you have children you’ll know how much they love praise, especially when they’ve created something in school and brought it home for you. When children paint pictures, create drawings or collages to bring home they love it when you hang them in their bedroom or pin them to the fridge.

However, when you stick their pictures to the fridge they can become dog-eared, discoloured and damaged over time. Also, the rest of your family would also like to have a copy of your children’s artwork, and by sticking it to the fridge you can’t all have it… unless of course you make a copy. Using scanning equipment and canvas printing techniques you can turn your children’s pictures into canvas prints that you can display with pride in your home and even share with friends and family by making extra copies.

Your children’s paintings don’t have to be pinned to a fridge or taped to the wall. By making canvas prints out of them you can turn them into artwork that you can cherish forever, as photos to canvas last much longer than conventionally printed photographs.

Everyone has holiday snaps from that once in a lifetime trip, or the annual holiday to the coast. Every time you look at the photos they fill you with a sense of excitement for the holiday, and with a fondness for the good times that you had. The problem is that most people don’t look at their holiday photos very often; they keep them tucked away in drawers, or in photo albums hidden away.

Photographs from your favourite holidays shouldn’t be hidden away in this manner; they should be on display in your home so that you can see them every day and enjoy them whenever you want. You can do this by having the pictures turned into canvas prints by printing them on canvas. With your holiday photos turned into canvas art you can enjoy them all of the time, without wondering where they are. Even your family and friends can enjoy your favourite holiday photos whenever they visit, without you having to dig out the photo album in a clumsy manner.

Turning your photos to canvas prints is a very popular way to create custom art from your own photo collection that will stand the test of time, as canvas prints last longer than conventional photo prints.

Have you ever wanted to be an artist? Many people love the idea of being a new romantic or impressionist artist, idling away at their easel in the fields, or by the river, painting a beautiful scene to make a new masterpiece. However the ideology rarely becomes reality as the lack of artistic talent often gets in the way of most people’s dreams. The fact that they can’t paint means they can’t paint a canvas painting.

It doesn’t have to be this way however as these days a lack of artistic ability doesn’t mean you can’t create an artistic masterpiece. Thanks to canvas printing techniques, any picture can be printed on canvas, creating a unique piece of canvas art without the need to wield a paintbrush around in anger. This means that you can utilise your camera, a tool that most of us possess and know how to use, to create a work of art.

By simply taking pictures of the world around us, whether it be of a beautiful nature landscape, something of wonder from the animal kingdom, some architectural delights or a portrait of the family, you can have the picture printed on canvas, creating a work of art for your home.

Don’t panic about not being able to paint, you can create a masterpiece with your camera and the latest canvas printing techniques.

Where do you keep your photos?

We’ve all got photos of times gone by. The question is where do we keep them? Most people keep their photos tucked away in photo albums at the bottom of the wardrobe, or in a drawer in the cupboard. Some people keep them in shoe boxes, in an unordered jumble, only to look at them when routing around for something else and happening to come across them.

If you have photos you’re especially proud of you might have them framed and displayed on your wall, or even enlarged and framed so that they take pride of place. The more technical people will have them scanned and saved on their computers, uploaded to their phones and set as a background, or even uploaded to social networking websites such as Facebook or MySpace.

All of these are tried and tested ways of keeping photos, but they’re not the best way, not the way that photos are meant to be displayed. The perfect picture can and should become the perfect piece of art, and you can do this by having your photos printed on canvas. By turning photos to canvas prints you’re creating artwork that will last a lifetime and will look far more impressive in your home than any framed picture hung on the wall.

So the next time you find you’re precious memories stored in a shoe box in the cupboard, don’t put them back in, choose the best ones and have them turned into canvas art for your home.
