Takashi Murakami, the Master of Japanese Superflat

Filed under: Canvas Prints — Charlie @ 11:00 am

Takashi Murakami was born in Tokyo in 1963. He is a very creative Japanese artist who paints as well as produces art from digital and commercial media. Murakami studied at the Tokyo National University of Fine Arts and Music where he got a doctorate in Nihonga, a combination of Western and Eastern styles of the nineteenth century. He later turned to otaku culture that, according to him, better represented the modern day Japanese life.

Using Poku, a mix of pop and otaku, Murakami conceived Superflat. He hopes to create a new culture that will rejuvenate the present Japanese art scene. His art is often colourful and imaginative. Murakami founded the “Hiropon factory,” in 1996. It was a studio where assistants produce his work. He registered the company as Kai kai Kiki Co Ltd and has about a hundred people working for him in Japan and the US. KaiKai Kiki has helped promote the new Japanese art at home and abroad.

Smooth Nightmare, Tan Tan Bo, Jellyfish Eyes and Army of Mushrooms are some of Murakami’s well-known works of art. His art is often colourful and imaginative. Such artworks are a perfect idea for your canvas prints that make your homes look attractive and appealing.

A fabulous option for pop art prints: Roy Lichtenstein’s images

Filed under: Canvas Prints — Charlie @ 8:30 am

Roy Lichtenstein was born in 1923 in New York. His father was a real estate agent and his mother was a housewife. When he was fourteen, he attended Parson’s School of Design once a week and the Art Students’ League for three years. After returning from the Army, he worked as a commercial designer and a teacher. The story goes that his children challenged him into painting something similar to Mickey Mouse and Donald Duck comics. He did and the rest is history.

Lichtenstein used stencils to make rows of oversized dots to make his prints or paintings look machine made. His peculiarity was that he did not want to use brush strokes. He also used screen prints, lithographs, etchings and woodcuts. He even combined them in one print. He made use of Ben-Day dots and speech balloons for the first time.

In 1962, he held his first one-man show at Castelli. This launched his career as a pop artist. His first famous work was the Ten Dollar Bill print. His popular works include Whaam!, Kiss V, Thinking of Him, Girl with Hair Ribbon, etc. After Andy Warhol, Lichtenstein is probably the most renowned Pop Art Artist.

If you are looking for comic style pop art designs inspired by comic books and the work of Roy Lichtenstein Designs, you have come to the right online resource. They let you have your say, literally (via a text bubble), and are uber cool.

Canvas prints in the style of Andy Warhol

Filed under: Canvas Prints — Gareth @ 9:56 am

Pop art canvas prints in the style of those created by Andy Warhol, probably the most vigorous proponent of the pop-art movement, are among the most enterprising options for canvas prints. You just need to choose the image, and the pop art treatment is effected by our in-house artists. The works can also be modelled on Andy Warhol’s classic style, if you wish to.

Andy Warhol is rightfully termed the Prince of Pop Art. Andrew Warhola, better known as Andy Warhol, was born in Pittsburgh on August 6, 1928. This famous painter and filmmaker started painting while still at school. His art teacher told him to paint what he liked best and after that, there was no stopping him!

He used the silkscreen technique and loved bright colours. Warhol studied commercial art at Carnegie Institute of Technology (Carnegie Mellon) and then moved to New York to work for magazines like Harper’s Bazaar and Vogue. Some of his famous pop art creations are Campbell’s soup cans, Coke bottles, Last Supper and Gold Marilyn Monroe and Elvis. Once you make your choice from Andy Warhol’s popular Pop art, the elements of the image/s chosen will be painstakingly cut out and recoloured to make them look absolutely authentic.

We need not say anything more, since the results speak for themselves.

Tips for proper care and maintenance of your precious digital canvas prints

Filed under: Canvas Prints — Jack @ 5:17 pm

Vibrant images and canvas prints are now an integral element of any home or office décor. But they need to be looked after well for them to long last. Following are some useful tips and instructions to ensure that your digital canvas prints remain in good condition for years.

  • Digital canvas prints, even those printed on good quality water-resistant canvasses, are typically not one hundred per cent waterproof. They should not be touched with wet hands since the ink may spread.
  • Ensure that they are not hung on wet walls. Do not apply liquid/semi-liquid cleaners onto them.
  • You should place digital canvas prints ideally in a low-humidity environment. A basement or attic, for example, would not be suitable. The main working or living areas of most offices and homes would be fine.
  • Avoid placing your canvas prints in direct sunlight.
  • The area where you keep your canvas prints should not be exposed to extreme temperature fluctuations. Avoid placing them near or in close contact with a heat source like a fireplace or radiator.
  • Do not touch the canvas with your hands. The surface may get sticky or oily.
